With the disappearance of this exceptional woven veil from the collective memory, the decline of the Tunis silk guild and the absence of written archives, Ajar is attempting to reinvent the craft using the technical prowess of the machine.
It took almost a year of investigations, relentless research, visits, exchanges, testimonies and meetings in Tunisia, France, Morocco and Spain to unravel some of the enigma surrounding the manufacture of this piece, the last traces of which date back to the early 20th century.
Only artificial intelligence guiding a "Jacquard" loom has been able to follow the lines of this veil, interpreting the vanished skills of master craftsmen of genius, specialists in pull weaving, whose names are written on the pieces they made: Amrane, Tagorti, Dabloune, Chakroune...
