Moving around, stopping, weaving a tent, setting up a house, dismantling, setting off again - these are all gestures that have endured for millennia. Nomadic weaving, a “primitive” craft, is still alive in many countries of North Africa and the Middle East. From Niger to Upper Egypt, via Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya, from Palestine to Afghanistan, via Syria, Saudi Arabia and Iraq... This practice, rooted in the land, is closely linked to space, climate and time... While following the steps of this weaving technique, which is performed at ground level, a weft and links have been created with the Mrezigues weavers of the Douz region, “the gateway to the Tunisian Sahara”, a territory that is both partionned and mobile...
